“To burn with desire and keep quiet about it is the greatest punishment
we can bring on ourselves.”
Blood Wedding, Federico Garcia Lorca.
A tragic love story of opposing cultures. A Chinese bride is shipped from
China to Australia and carted to an English owned sugar cane plantation; she
is to be married at a price to a Chinese cane cutter and forced to work as a
maid. Trapped in her environment and marriage, only money will buy her freedom
and a ride out. She initiates sexual bargaining with the English heir,
prostituting her body for money. Beneath the sweltering sub tropical sun,
repressed desires lead to unbridled passion and forbidden love, spiraling
towards a tragic outcome.
